3 Common Issues that is Distressing to Your Personal Care Aide

The success in having personal caregivers is a result of the joining efforts of the family and the caregiver. This means that the two parties have an understanding of how they would cooperate and work together to give the senior patient the best care they need.

Most healthcare providers have agreed that, in order to experience the best kind of home health care, we must establish a good relationship with our caregivers. By this, we mean that they should be given ample rest and days off especially when they ask for it. We do not overwork them so they can still function efficiently. We must also ask constantly communicate with them not just on the patient’s condition but also on how they are doing.

With these things in mind, we gathered some of the common issues that have been stressing out our personal care aids. Being one of the leading Home Care Company in La Mesa, California, Sunshine Home Health Aide Org., Inc., our staff and health care aides are equally important as that of our patients.

Here are some of the issues common among personal care aides:

  1. Long Shifts and Working Hours

Caregivers and personal care aides are required to duty for more than eight hours especially when they are staying with their patients. They have to be on-call at any time because the patient may need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Having no fixed working hours can overwork the body. If our sleeping hours are changed every now and then, our body clock may have a hard time coping up with the changes. Thus, it often results in sickness or stress. This can be very stressful to the body. Subsequently, we may not be able to serve our patients well too.

  2. Lack of skilled workers
Caregiving is not done purely out of skills and training, it is also done with a touch of passion for service. But when the patients that we handle needs an intensive care which requires administering IV therapy or feeding tube, one has to be skilled enough to conduct such proceedings. There are some intricate procedures that must be carried out only by professionals as it could make grave mistakes which are dangerous to the patient’s health.
  3. Lack of appreciation for our personal care aides

One way of motivating our caregivers to do better in their jobs is to show that we appreciate what they are doing and we are grateful for all their help to our loved ones. We must also show them respect for their privacy and personal life giving them enough time to be with their families or enjoy some free time.

The reason why many personal care aides get discouraged in their job is that they do not feel appreciated. Thus, a simple thank you and being kind to them can go a long way. It boosts their energy a hundred times more.

Our caregivers and personal care aides play a vital role in maintaining our senior loved one’s health. We must not take them for granted. Treat them with kindness and respect and in return, they will provide quality care for our patients.
